❄️ 1. Protect Your Dog’s Paws from Ice, Salt & Cold
Street salt and ice can irritate your dog’s paws, causing cracking or burns. One of the best winter dog care tips is using paw protection before every walk. I've attached the link to my favorite for you to find easily here: Dog Paw Balm These Waterproof Dog Booties are also so stinking adorable, but a must have as well. To protect your bff while at home you can use this Pet-Friendly Sidewalk Salt too. This one is highly recommended.
I always apply a layer of Dog Paw Balm before walks and rinse paws afterward to remove salt and ice.
❄️ 2. Keep Walks Shorter in Extremely Cold Weather
When temperatures drop below freezing, long walks can put dogs at risk of frostbite—especially puppies, seniors, and short-haired breeds. Keep walks shorter and more frequent.
These indoor activities are some of my favorites for my pup. They are perfect of keeping your friend stimulated and busy when it's too cold to be outside all day...
❄️ 3. Dress Your Dog in Warm Winter Gear
Coats and sweaters aren’t just cute—they help dogs stay warm. Choose one that covers the chest and is waterproof for snowy days. This Waterproof Dog Winter Jacket is my go to for cold winter walks! For a little lighter option, these Fleece Winter Sweaters will be just right, and they are the cutest thing ever!
❄️ 4. Maintain Grooming Routines During Winter
A well-brushed coat helps dogs retain heat. Mats cause heat loss, so keep up with grooming. This Deshedding Grooming Brush is the best one I've found! Make sure to use Dog Friendly Moisturizing Shampoo also! (I love the coconut lime verbena scent!) Just like us, your dog's skin is prone to dryness from the winter weather. These can help with dry skin and shedding during winter.
❄️ 5. Provide a Warm Sleeping Spot
Avoid drafty areas near windows or doors. A warm bed helps maintain body temperature and keeps joints feeling good. These are great options:
❄️ 6. Monitor Food & Water Intake
Some dogs need more calories in winter, while others slow down and may need less. Always provide fresh water. These are the best options that I've found:
My pup also love this chow with venison! It is High-Quality Winter Dog Food (Purina One: True Instinct) and our favorite!
These winter dog care tips will help keep your pup warm, safe, and healthy all season long. Add protective gear, maintain grooming routines, and make indoor play a priority when temperatures drop. With the right preparation (and a few helpful Amazon finds), you and your dog can enjoy the magic of winter in comfort.
